Bitcoin payment processor OpenNode has announced a new partnership with Real Bedford FC to enable the football club to accept Bitcoin payments for merchandise, sponsorships, online ticket sales, and in-person tickets and concessions sales at games.

OpenNode state they are “committed to growing the Bitcoin economy and making it easy for any business to operate on a Bitcoin standard”. According to the firm, Real Bedford FC, run by Bitcoin advocate and notorious podcast host Peter McCormack, is a “great example of synergy between his complementary passions: education, community, sports, and Bitcoin.”

Peter McCormack, Real Bedford FC Chairman, said:

“We are thrilled to partner with OpenNode to support us in our plan to operate on a bitcoin standard. I have known the OpenNode team for years and they were a natural fit for our project.”

In a company blog post, OpenNode commented:

“OpenNode is happy to partner with Real Bedford FC and we look forward to working with the team to spread the adoption of Bitcoin payments to the Bedford community. Real Bedford is fully leveraging the benefits that Bitcoin offers and we’re happy to provide a simple, reliable, and trusted solution for processing Bitcoin payments. “

Real Bedford is also planning to issue player’s and staff paychecks in Bitcoin in the near future, for which OpenNode will provide the needed support.
