Payments giant Visa has launched its long-anticipated Creator Program where a selected group of entrepreneurs in fields like music, fashion and film can receive support in expanding their operations through the use of non-fungible tokens (NFT).
Cuy Sheffield, Visa’s head of crypto, said in a statement:
“NFTs have the potential to become a powerful accelerator for the creator economy.
Through the Visa Creator Program, we want to help this new breed of small and micro businesses tap into new mediums for digital commerce.”
Visa’s Creator Program is effectively a one-year immersion into the world of NFTs, where the business participants have support in technical and product mentorship, community building, access to thought leaders, exposure to Visa clients and partners. ‘Creators’ will also receive a one-time fixed USD amount.
The program was built in partnership with former Major League Baseball player Micah Johnson. The former second baseman and outfielder for the White Sox, Dodgers, Braves and Rays is the creator of Aku, an animated black astronaut character, which was released in February 2021 on Nifty Gateway and raised more than $2 million in NFT tokens in 24 hours.
